Located in the southern part of Burgundy,
paray le monial is a busy pilgrimage centre.
its basilica, built on the plan of Cluny at the
end of the 11th century and the 12th century,
is a masterpiece of romanesque architecture.
the old town has a number of half-timbered
houses and interesting renaissance buildings.

The atmosphere in the pedestrian streets is
more meridional than anywhere else in
Burgundy
.

A CULTURAL SIT IN BURGUNDY

An architectural heritage of the first order:

    -the romanesque basilica : still-living symbol
of the cluny style of romanesque art.
    - the jayet house (XVI th cent.) dwelling of a
rich draper. A most beautiful relic of the
italian renaissance.
    - the cloister of the priory (XVIII th cent.)
adjoining the basilica, invites one to discover
the life of the last monks of paray.
    - the "st nicolas tower "  (XVI th cent.)

Paray le Monial, at the heart of the Charolais region ,
close to Cluny and Taizé, stands at the
departure point for the tour of the brionnais
romanesque churches.
It has remained a pilgrimage centre renowned
throughout the world and an essential stopover
on the way to Lourdes, La Salette , Nevers and
Lisieux .
